Welcome and a literacy moment

So I'm keeping a blog. I tend to do this alot. In fact, I usually blog on a different site, under a different name--that's my personal blog. I keep my school stuff here, on blogger.com and I really like how it lets me build community among my students. One thing that I vowed to do this semester was to blog alongside my students. So I'm doing the blog assignments I've given them. And I'm sticking to the due dates as well.

I believe that literacy moments are constantly happening and whenver I try to pick just one, I always have a hard time doing so. There are so many different things that someone can be literate it. I think for me, a recent literacy moment was when I started to play the harp again. I went to the Harps International showroom in Brooklyn and as L. showed me different harps, it was like my fingers remembered how to play. It's been nearly ten years since I sat down at an instrument like this. That afternoon I decided, if my fingers could remember the basics, surely, with practice I'd be able to improve. Thus, I returned to the harp showroom two days later and I picked up my harp. She is a Camac Korrigan and I named her Niente. When I watch other more experienced harpers play, I don't feel at all literate, but I guess I am, because I can sit down, play a couple of tunes and I understand the musicality of playing the harp---but I'd still like to gain a better literacy at it.
try to practice for a few hours every day to quicken my literacy, but sadly, I don't always have time to practice with everything else I try to do.
